Founded on May 21st 1936, Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society（CMES）is a non-profit organization of mechanical engineers engaged in the promotion of science and technology in mechanical engineering. It is also a national society closely affiliated with the China Association of Science and Technology (CAST). With a membership of 180,000 mechanical engineers and allied professionals home and abroad, CMES serves this wide-ranging technical community through high-quality programs in conferences and publications, education and accreditation, research, prize and awards, consulting services, exhibitions and various forms of outreach.
    Structurally, the National Congress of Representatives of Members, which is held once every five years, is the supreme organ of CMES. The Congress elects 178 CMES members to the Governing Council. From this Council, 43 members are elected to the Standing Council. The councils are executive bodies of CMES, responsible for decision-making of important issues of the society.
    Under the Governing Council, there are nine working committees to assist the operation. They are in the areas of academic affairs, membership, editorial & publishing, education & training, international affairs, engineering promotion & awards, technical consulting, youth and organizational affairs. Each working committee has a CMES Vice President as its director to supervise the work.
    Regionally, CMES has over 30 branches in all the provinces of China except Tibet. These branches have their daily activities of mechanical engineering in their own regions.
    Technically, there are 33 technical institutions under CMES. They cover a broad technical area related to mechanical engineering and organize various technical activities throughout the country. The technical institutions are:
